First-time visitors Karl and Stephanie Bruehl from Cologne, Germany, booked this break for their Holiday during the spring.
“We stayed at a great 3 star hotel in the centre of the idyllic village of Beddgelert, so we had a perfect base to explore the area.
The Glaslyn valley is classic walking country and the Bryn Du path is amongst the best in Snowdonia. It’s a great low level alternative to the valley’s higher paths and climbs steeply through the oak woods which, if you know where to look, have some fascinating relics of the area’s industrial heritage. The river was once navigable from the sea as far as Aberglaslyn bridge, and when the water’s high it’s an impressive sight. It falls in a series of rapids and pools where you can see dippers and herons diving for food. There are many other great walks in the area and all can be accessed by a superefficient Sherpa bus system. The final stages of the walk have spectacular views of the mountains and over the Glaslyn estuary. The area is covered in Rhododendrons and fl owering heather, too, so it’s a real treat at the right time of year. We can’t wait to come back next year.”
